Surgeon's Knot: When two different lines need to be joined, one should use the Surgeon's Knot.

Put the two lines against each other on the surface, as each overlaps about 10 inches.
- Tie an Overhand Knot. Pull one of the lines all the way through the loop.
- Pull the first line through the loop again.
- Take the other end through the loop.
- The knot can now be worked into its final shape.
