Black Lighting - Before passing judgements on innovated ways to catch fish, consider using a black light on your next night fishing trip. Every angler already knows the good things about night fishing- bigger fish and calm water. But fishing at night is a challenge even to the most experienced fisherman.

A big challenge to night fisherman is being able to see your gear, including your line. Since it is important to see your line in the event of a bite, any nighttime fisherman can miss out on the big catch at any given moment.

One way to be able to see your line at night is to use a fluorescent fishing line combined with a blacklight. Your florescent line will glow in the dark if used in conjunction with a black light, which will make it easier to see in the event you get a hit. In some instances, you can see your line better in the dark than even in the day. The "Stan Sloan" is a popular choice of black lights for anglers. Cabela sells an Optronics black light for under $100.

In conjunction with a good quality black light, it is also important to use the correct line that will radiate from the black light. You can find a flame green fireline florescent line from Berkley that will work for both day and night fishing. The color is chemically added to the line during its molding phase, so you do not have to worry about fading of 'dye'.

Give it a try. It might just be that missing link to your next big catch.
